Content Managers
The YARN website has two content managers. DAFF has provided funding for two young people with a background in agriculture to take over the management of content within the website. This will allow the website to better reflect the group which it is intended to serve. Profiles of the content managers are provided below.
Content Managers - Current
Carlie Harrington
G'day, my name is Carlie Harrington and I am from the small farming community of Blowhard, Vic. Together with Meg Kummerow we are the new content managers of YARN.
I have been involved with rural Australia all my life and since leaving school I have worked in many different facets of the rural industry. The founder of a ‘paddock to plate’ grass-fed beef enterprise, I was a semi-finalist in the 2006 Nescafe Big Break awards for young people in business. I currently work with my partner in the horticultural industry and as a busy young farmer, I understand the need to provide a quick and easily accessible information portal for other young people in rural Australia.
This is a very exciting opportunity for me and I am very keen to achieve a greater public awareness of YARN by getting out there, attending events for rural young people and networking with those in all aspects of the Industry. YARN is ideal for those in rural industries looking for information, to strengthen networks and to communicate with each other, the Government and industry. I believe the key to guaranteeing a secure and sustainable future for those in rural industries lies in the investment in young people, and YARN provides a central point for contact for those within the sector.
It is our role as Content Managers to ensure YARN remains as up to date and jam packed with information as possible. If you have any ideas on how we can improve YARN, you would like to send us some information on news, events or opportunities or you are an industry representative that would like to see how YARN can work for you, please email us at yarn@daff.gov.au
Meg Kummerow
Hi, I’m Meg Kummerow, one of the new Content Managers of the YARN website. I live near Pittsworth in Qld on an Irrigated Cotton & Grain property.
Growing up on a beef cattle property fostered my passion for Australia’s Rural Industry & I have continued this passion by working in several different industries throughout my working career so far. I am always excited to hear & see the enthusiasm that other young people have for Primary Industries in Australia, & this enthusiasm assures me that our future is positive & in good hands.
Our aims as Content Managers of the YARN site is to ensure that it is your one-stop-shop for news, information & opportunities available to you, as well as to foster networks between all young people involved in Australia’s Rural Sector & those living in regional & rural areas. This will ensure that Australia’s Rural Industries strengthen & continue into the future.
As this is your resource, we would love to hear what you think about it & what could be improved. Send your feedback to yarn@daff.gov.au
Content Managers 06/07
Gemma Rafferty
Hi! My name is Gemma Rafferty and I am from Geraldton in Western Australia.
I am passionate about rural and regional Australia and have been selected to be a content manager for the YARN website, along with Carla Armytage.
It is extremely important that our agriculture industries and rural communities have access to up to date information and quality networking opportunities. I believe the new and improved YARN website can help achieve this.
One of 10, I grew up in Morawa, a sheep and wheat production area in the mid-west region of Western Australia. Although I moved away from home to attend university, I have always been drawn back to agricultural and fishing communities. It is because of my passion for rural and regional communities that I have found myself involved in YARN.
Although my role as content manager for the YARN website is only just beginning, I am excited and blown away by the possibilities and opportunities that are out there for young rural Australians. If you have any news, ideas, upcoming events or just want to have a bit of a yarn I’d love to hear from you.
Please send through an e-mail to yarn@daff.gov.au, we’re all interested in what you have to say!
Carla Armytage
I'm Carla Armytage – one of YARN’s two new content managers. I live on a mixed cropping irrigation property at Coleambally in the Riverina, NSW with my husband Sam.
I’ve lived in rural Australia nearly all my life and strongly believe in promoting the opportunities available to young people outside urban centres. I firmly believe that the future success of the agriculture, fisheries and forestry sectors is linked with developing a highly skilled, motivated and connected generation of young rural people.
The YARN website gives young people in primary industries access to information that helps them participate in all levels of decision making and leadership. That investment in young people will help underpin a secure and sustainable future for them and their industries.
I have just started as one of YARN’s content managers but already I am amazed at the enthusiasm and interest in the site. It’s amazing what opportunities are out there for young rural Australians.
I look forward to hearing from anyone with ideas or comments to ensure the site becomes a one-stop-shop for rural youth.
